Age of Empires 4 has finally arrived. While the next instalment in one of the most popular RTS series to ever exist here, it is off to a poor start for a small minority. Some players are reporting the Age of Empires 4 crashes are preventing them from even loading the game, while some are crashing at random intervals. If you’re being afflicted with these issues, then we will suggest some fixes for the issue.
How to stop Age of Empires 4 from crashing
There are plenty of things that are causing players to experience various forms of Age of EMpire 4 crash reports. Some of the likely fixes include the bog-standard fixes that someone on first-line support provides. Just to get them out of the way, they are:
- Try restarting your game
- Try restarting your PC
- Update your graphics drivers
- Update your operating system
- Reinstall the game (Xbox App) or verify the integrity of the game cache on Steam.
See, really simple solutions to potential fix your crash errors. The most likely candidates here are the graphics driver updates, and the potential miss install. You should definitely install the graphics driver, especially NVIDIA owners. The reason why is because NVIDIA dropped a graphics driver update on October 26, which optimizes Age of Empires 4, Guardian of the Galaxy, Call of Duty Vanguard and other games launching in the next week. As you can tell, it’s a rather big driver update, so get it if you can.
The other probable error is the game installing incorrectly, If you’re one of those players that are playing the game on Xbox Game Pass, then there is no modify install button. So, you’ll need to reinstall the game. If you’re playing on Steam, however, you can verify the integrity of your game cache by right-clicking the game in the library and going on properties.
According to some Steam PC players, there is an issue with the Steam overlay, along with other third-party software. You can try turning off the Steam Overlay. To do this, simply press Settings, and click on the Steam Overlay option. Now you need to head over to the In-game tab and toggle the Disable Steam Overlay option to the off mode.
if that doesn’t work, make sure to turn off any other issue with third party software in your system tray. Such examples are those who like monitoring their performance, such as MSI Afterburner, Speccy and more. The reason why is because the Xbox app, which seems to be on while Age of Empire 4 is active also calculates this information. There could be some potential crashes due to conflicts like this.
Is XInput1_4.dll missing causing the Age of Empires 4 crashing issue?
Apparently, some players are finding that a missing DLL file is the missing trick. The way to fix the XInput1_4.dll missing error is by heading into your to C:WindowsSystem32 folder and finding xinput1_3.dll or xinput1_2.dll. Copy the file and paste it to somewhere else to safely rename the file without breaking your operating system. According to tech wizards, you should rename it to xinput1_4.dll and place the renamed file back in C:WindowsSystem32. If that works you will find you no longer crash.
