Chocolate Cinnamon Swirl Cake - The Southern Lady Cooks

This Chocolate Cinnamon Swirl Cake is so good! If you love chocolate and you love cinnamon, you will love this one. I think the glaze is perfect on it, but it would be wonderful with cream cheese frosting too. If you have followed our website for any amount of time you know we love cinnamon and this cake is at the top of our list. Of course you can never go wrong this this wonderful Cinnamon Bread. It’s one of our most popular recipes.

Chocolate Cinnamon Swirl Cake Ingredients Needed:

Butter

White granulated sugar

Eggs

Sour cream

Buttermilk

Vanilla extract

All-purpose flour

Baking powder

Baking soda

Salt

Ground cinnamon

Walnuts or pecans

Ingredients for swirl:

Brown sugar

Ground cinnamon

White granulated sugar

100% cocoa

Glaze Ingredients:

Powdered sugar

Milk

This cream cheese frosting would be a great addition to this cake if you want to add something other than the glaze. I think this cake has such a great taste because none of the flavors are over powering. It’s just the right amount of chocolate and cinnamon. This would be a wonderful cake to take to a brunch or any gathering.

  • 1 stick butter or 8 tablespoons softened
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Ingredients for swirl:

  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon white granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon 100% cocoa

Glaze Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk more or less
  • In a mixing bowl combine softened butter, white sugar, eggs, sour cream, buttermilk and vanilla extract. Mix with mixer. In a small bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and ground cinnamon.

  • Combine the flour with the liquid and mix all together with mixer. Fold in nuts with spoon. Make the swirl below. Add half the cake mixture to a sprayed 10 inch bundt pan. Sprinkle the dry swirl over the cake mixture. Follow with the other half of the cake mixture and spread over swirl. Take a kitchen knife and swirl though the batter.

  • Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 50 to 55 minutes or until center tests done. Cool cake for 10 minutes before removing from pan. Let cool completely before adding glaze below.
