The first main add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 lands on the 18th of November and is set to inject a new lease of life into the Seattle giant’s seemingly unstopped virtual flyer. Already a huge success on PC its recent arrival on Xbox has opened up the game’s audience to even dizzier heights and with the arrival of flight peripherals aimed specifically at Xbox pilots, it seems that Microsoft’s 10-year roadmap for the game is set to continue unabated.
Reno Air Races
The Reno Air Races are the first paid expansion from the devs themselves but all players will get a free GOTY edition upgrade complete with five new planes to take to the skies in.
Back to Reno though, and this looks cool. Adding live head-to-head plane racing to Flight Simulator pretty much gives you a completely new way to enjoy the game and the devs have worked closely with the real-life Reno Air Races Authority (RARA) to develop the add-on.
Priced as two individual packages – $19.99 for the multiplayer option and four aircraft, or the much more expensive Full Collection which looks like giving you the same stuff plus ten liveries for each of the four aircraft but setting you back a steeper $59.00. Seems like a safer bet most people will go for the cheaper option here/
The four aircraft included are the American T-6 Texan, North American P-51 Mustang, the Aero L-39 Albatross and the Aviat Pitts Special S1S. The extra liveries are officialy licensed including famous champions…but…another $40?
Game of the Year Edition
As for the Game of the Year edition pilots will all be getting access to the following new aircraft:
Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet
Pilatus PC-6 Porter
CubCrafters NX Cub
Aviat Pitts Special S1S
As well as this there are eight now re-developed airports.
- Leipzig/Halle Airport (EDDP)
- Allgäu Airport Memmingen (EDJA)
- Kassel Airport (EDVK)
- Lugano Airport (LSZA)
- Zurich Airport (LSZH)
- Luzern-Beromunster Airport (LSZO)
- United States
- Patrick Space Force Base (KCOF)
- Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (KNKX)
And alongside new missions and tutorials, Microsoft has also added a further 545 US airports that were missing from the original launch of the game.
Finally, we have new photogrammetry cities including Helsinki (Finland), Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany), Brighton, Derby, Eastbourne, Newcastle, and Nottingham (UK), and Utrecht (Netherlands).
All this for free and you can’t complain. We look forward to seeing what the developers have lined up next for us in Flight Simulator 2020.
