Qualcomm Technologies announced that the Snapdragon X65 modem managed to set a new record for data transfer rates in fifth-generation mobile networks (5G).
The named product supports 5G networks with autonomous (SA, standalone) and non-autonomous (NSA, non-standalone) architecture. Compatible with LTE, WCDMA (DB-DC-HSDPA), TD-SCDMA, CDMA 1x, GSM / EDGE networks. In other words, Snapdragon X65-based devices can operate on all generations of cellular networks.
Various energy-saving tools have been implemented. These are Qualcomm 5G PowerSave 2.0 technologies, Qualcomm Wideband Envelope Tracking and Qualcomm AI-Enhanced Signal Boost.
Qualcomm announced the setting of a new record for the speed of data transmission in the cellular network; during the Mobile World Congress 2021 (MWC) exhibition, which is being held in Barcelona, Spain.
The bandwidth of the data transmission channel reached 10.5 Gbps. They were using the millimeter wave range. The information transfer rate towards the base station was 790 Mbit/s.
Download speeds of over 10 Gbps were unimaginable during the early eras of 3G and 4G cellular connectivity. Progress in 5G redefined speed and capacity, with the large amount of spectrum for high-frequency bands provided by 5G mmWave now enabling the fastest mobile upload and download speeds in the US, China, and Germany – 16 times faster than those of regular 5G sub-6.
This new 10 Gigabit 5G era using mmWave connectivity is yet another giant leap forward in how 5G technology improves the day-to-day user mobile experience. For instance, with 5G mmWave fixed wireless access, users can get fiber-like multi-Gigabit speeds and stream their favorite shows in 4K resolution, shine at group video calls, and work with colleagues from home using cloud-connected applications — the experiences they deserve.
Along with cutting-edge 5G mmWave connectivity, the Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System also facilitates incredible connectivity for superior 5G sub-6 performance. The implementation of 5G sub-6 uplink carrier aggregation extends coverage; and adds even more capacity for better performance and all-day battery life. During his keynote at MWC21, CEO Cristiano Amon demonstrated 5G sub-6 uplink carrier aggregation in Snapdragon X65; reaching more than 790 Mbps uploads. 5G carrier aggregation helps improve speeds and reliability in challenging wireless conditions; so consumers can enjoy faster file transfers and smoother video calls.
Whether it’s lightning-fast 5G mmWave speeds or ultra-reliable sub-6 performance; the Snapdragon X65 helps bring the 5G spectrum to wherever you need it. Record-breaking 10 Gbps downloads over mmWave and sub-6 uplink carrier aggregation are just some of the latest breakthroughs for Qualcomm Technologies and the Snapdragon X65; and build on an extensive portfolio of cellular and wireless technologies that empower users to connect, compute, and communicate.
