As of today, the smartphone industry almost can not proceed without Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is that aspect of smartphones that allow them to perform “human task”. Many smartphones are smarter because of their AI algorithm. According to the recent data from Master Lu, the top three smartphone rankings in terms of AI are OnePlus 9 Pro with 208,065 points, Realme GT with 207,209 points, and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro with 206,958 points.
Interestingly, the top 5 smartphones in terms of AI all use the Snapdragon 888 processor. They also use the sixth-generation AI engine and the second-generation sensor hub. The engine promises performance and power consumption in AI tasks. There are great improvements in this area. According to Qualcomm, the sixth-generation AI engine is 1.1 billion times faster than the fifth-generation, and its AI performance is as high as 26 TOPS.
Master Lu said that taking the OnePlus 9 Pro as an example, in addition to the game experience, the screen of the OnePlus 9 Pro can also greatly improve the clarity of images through AI algorithms, intelligently optimizing 480p low-definition video resolution to 1080p or higher. The resolution enhancement function can be adapted to the app. In the future, AI will also be reflected in more hardware optimizations, and multi-scenario application is a general trend. Here is the full list
1. OnePlus 9 Pro – 208,065 points
OnePlus 9 Pro uses its AI technology mostly in the camera department basically to make shooting better and automatic. The AI algorithm separates the subject from the background. This makes the smartphone’s portrait mode very attractive. However, users that make certain hairstyles, wear glasses, or if there are small gaps between elbows and body may find some issues with the AI capacity.
OnePlus’s CEO, Pete Lau said
“A great display can go to waste if you’re watching low-resolution video online. So one of the things we added in the OnePlus 9 series was an AI algorithm to enhance video to greater resolution and clarity, so you get full use of every pixel”.
In addition to the image quality, OnePlus 9 Pro also uses AI algorithms to improve video performance. According to Master Lu, the OnePlus 9 Pro tops the AI smartphone list with 208,065 points.
2. Realme GT – 207,209 points
There are many reasons why Realme GT AI performance is in second place on Master Lu’s ranking with 207,209 points. On this smartphone, there are a couple of good tools in the settings that allow users to take full control of the Android system. However, Realme GT’s AI algorithms and machine learning can easily handle everything for you.
The Realme GT camera app offers AI Scene Enhancement (also known as Chroma Boost or Dazzle Color). This feature is a sort of high-tech HDR mode which stacks several shots to output a higher dynamic range. The AI enhancement also significantly improves colour saturation. The saturation of the colours better reflects when the algorithm detects a blue sky, green grass, or buildings. For users who really appreciate colour saturation, the AI toggle of this smartphone needs to be on.
The Realme GT camera comes with many modes, however, when AI detects that the user is capturing image shots in the night, the AI automatically opts for Night Mode. This mode will not over-saturate the colours for better image output.
Furthermore, the Realme GT comes with an AI Highlight video mode. It is shot in 1080p at night and does look good, probably because of the lower resolution.
3. Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro – 206,958 points
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro comes with an AI Master Image Quality Engine. This engine has four items including super-resolution enhancement, AI intelligent scene optimization, video image quality enhancement, and dynamic picture compensation. Furthermore, Xiaomi used its self-developed “Night Owl” algorithm and the aim of this feature is to achieve a better image effect.
Night Owl has three main advantages which include noise reduction, handheld stability, and colour accuracy. This feature achieves this through an innovative deep learning AI algorithm. This feature breakthrough dark light visual limits and achieves a clear, bright image.
Xiaomi’s Night Owl algorithm also comes with a noise calibration system for very light scenes. Furthermore, this device uses BlinkAI to enhance the Night Mode for the video camera. This feature mimics the human eyes using a neural network. With this feature, the image’s detail and vibrancy in just milliseconds.
According to Master Lu’s ranking for AI flagships, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro ranks third with 206,958 points.
4. Redmi K40 Pro – 206,842 points
The Redmi K40 Pro comes with an AI Master Image Quality Engine just like the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro. Like we said earlier, this engine has four major aspects including super-resolution enhancement, AI intelligent scene optimization, video image quality enhancement, and dynamic picture compensation.
Using the AI algorithms (super-resolution enhancement), the Redmi K40 Pro can transform a low-resolution video to higher levels. The video mode supports 100-level AI beauty adjustment but does not support local beautification. According to Master Lu, the Redmi K40 Pro has 106,842 points in the top 5 list of AI smartphones.
5. BlackShark Gaming Phone 4 Pro – 206,716 points
The Black Shark 4 Pro is the first smartphone to use Elliptic Lab’s AI Virtual Proximity Sensor INNER BEAUTY. Laila Danielsen, CEO of Elliptic Labs said “Launching with new smartphone customers is always exhilarating, in particular when it is the best gaming smartphone manufacturer like Black Shark,”…“We are pleased that young, up and coming companies select Elliptic Labs as a trusted partner for innovation.”
The BlackShark 4 Pro comes with the 6th generation AI Engine is famed for extreme neural processing in imaging and computing which elevates the whole 5G gaming experience. This smartphone also comes with a higher AI computing power. According to the company, the AI computing power of this device is 70% faster than the previous generation. According to Master Lu’s rating, the BlackShark Gaming Phone 4 Pro is the 5th most active smartphone in terms of AI computing power.
Today, it is hard to find even an entry-level smartphone without any sort of AI algorithm. Xiaomi is doing a lot in the smartphone field and that’s why we have two Xiaomi phones on the top 5 list. In fact, even the BlackShark Gaming Phone 4 Pro has links to Xiaomi. This shows the company’s interest in AI technology.
