2021’s Call of Duty game, CoD Vanguard, is out of the bag. Activision recently unveiled plenty of details to get CoD fans hyped. From a single-player WW2 campaign to huge updates to CoD Warzone, there was something for everyone.
Although, one of the biggest surprises of the night was the addition of Zombies. Yes, that’s right. For one of the first times in CoD’s history, we will have back-to-back Zombies. The best bit is the Call of Duty Vanguard Zombies mode is that it has a narrative developing on the recent revelations from Black Ops Cold War.
The story behind Vanguard’s zombie mode intertwines with the events in the Black Ops Cold War’s Dark Aether plot. WW2 is set roughly 20 years before the dates we see in the Cold War. Perhaps we may find out how a zombie virus broke out in a Russian zoo?.
However, there is ample opportunity to connect the Dark Aether story all the back to World at War’s events. Treyarch first made the famous zombies mode back in 2008, using the mad Nazi scientist concept to make the ultimate army. While the zombies have become more developed in the lore and mechanics in recent CoD games, there could be easter eggs to WaW. Perhaps we may even get lore tie ins to World at War’s zombie maps and themes. Could we get a remastered zombies map from the original days since CoDs feature remastered multiplayer maps like Nuketown? That would be cool now, wouldn’t it?
Of course, this is all entirely speculation. Activision merely mentioned that Treyarch is working on the Call of Duty Vanguard Zombie mode, while other studios work on other aspects of Vanguard. If you are a major zombies fan, we know more information is coming soon. Activision confirmed that more information is coming on All Hallows Eve in their announcement blog, which translates to Halloween. It is possible we can get more teasers and snippets before then, but this is all we have for now.
