TTArtisan has launched a 11mm F2.8 fisheye lens for the growing range of FUJIFILM GFX cameras. Including the FUJIFILM GFX100, GFX 50S, GFX 50R and GFX 100S.
The new Fisheye lens is evidence of the increasing popularity of these medium format photographic and video cameras. It will be especially of interest to video shooters, if you’re using the GFX 100 and 100S. They both offer a 4K DCI of 4096 x 2160 pixels with a 2K DCI of 2048 x 2160. You can also output a 12-bit RAW over a clean HDMI to a Ninja V recorder or similar.
The fisheye will give users some character or effect with distortion of this large sensor canvas – a huge 43.8 × 32.9mm and 103 MP on the GFX100 models. Use it wide open at F2.8 will fashion some astonishing still and movie effects – maybe even as a Fisheye portrait lens or as a speciality aerial lens. The manual lens closes down to F16 on the other end.
TTArtisan 11mm fisheye
The optical design is 11 elements in seven groups which TTArtisan say has helped improve the soft edge of fisheye lens. The company designs a similar Fisheye lens for Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, and Leica L and M mounts. The price is $215 and available from the TTArtisan E-commerce site.
For a medium format lens, this price is quite remarkable, but on closer inspection, you will find a little note on TTArtisan’s website, stating that “the 11mm f2.8 fisheye lens is designed for Full-Frame Format. So there will be a little dark corner when mounted on the FUJIFILM cameras.”
This is probably the reason for the rather low price: it is more of a rehousing and not a completely new lens for medium format. Nevertheless, you get a quite unique lens for your FUJIFILM GFX 100, GFX 50S, GFX 50R or GFX 100S cameras.
