A new gimbal perfect for mirrorless cameras is now on the market. The Zhiyun Weebill-2 Gimbal Stabilizer is an update to the current Weebill-S, with several new features. Better ergonomics, increased payload, and better motors let operators fine-tuning those Steadicam-like shots. Solo shooters and small crews have another tool to choose from in order to elevate their footage. Let’s break down the new changes!
With so many gimbals on the market, it is hard to stand out from the crowd. Keeping this in mind, Zhiyun’s update to their Weebill series brings some unique additions that make it stand out in its price point. While slightly larger than its older brother, the Weebill-S, the new addition to the family builds upon the foundation of previous generations.
New guts to match the glory
The interior of the Zhiyun Weebill-2 has been updated with an Infineon sensor that will allow for smoother operation by increasing stability and responsiveness. The new algorithm, combined with new and stronger motors, gives the Weebill-2 an impressive payload of up to 7.2lb. Perfect for shooters that utilize heavier lenses or other accessories.
Another change includes an internal rechargeable battery located within the grip. While not removable, the battery will last for about 9 hours and can be recharged in 90 minutes using the USB-C port located in the handle. Some operators may prefer a replaceable battery, but the current battery life will be more than enough for most shoot days. However, battery life can be extended with a USB-C power bank if things get down the wire.
This gimbal has been working out
The internals are not the only thing updated in the Weebill-2. A slightly larger aluminum-alloy frame and bigger motor arms to hold the beefier motors, all lend to the new payload limit. The buttons that were located on the grip, have now been relocated above where an operator’s hand would be. An additional sling grip handle may be attached for increased ergonimics and grip.
A versatile Focus Control Wheel located right above the grip allows for adjustments to roll axis, aperture, and ISO, as well as electronic and mechanical follow focus and zoom systems.
Say goodbye to your apps
The Zhiyun Weebill-2 Gimbal Stabilizer comes with a 2.88″ full-color touch screen that gives you full control of the gimbal’s features. With just a few taps, an operator can adjust parameters, settings, or set up a time-lapse, all without having to reach for their smartphone. A unique retractable & flip-out design allows for the screen to sit flush with the gimbal body, creating a truly ergonomic design.
But wait, there’s more. The screen can also act as a monitor when paired with the optional Zhiyun TransMount Image Transmitter AI. This transmitter clips under the camera mount and sends a video signal to up to three devices that are using the ZY app. Distances can reach up to 150 meters, depending on interference and line of sight. When coupled with the SmartFollow feature, the Weebill-2 can turn your one-man band, into a crew of two.
